Neutralisation: Neutralizer is useful in removing the Free Fatty Acids (FFA) by addition of caustic soda. Oil is heated at 60 degree Celsius with heating coils and oil is stirred by the stirrer. The soap stock is formed due to a chemical reaction between caustic soda and free fatty acid which are allowed to settle at the base of neutralizer from where it taken out into a soap stock tank. This oil gets washed with hot water in order to reduce extra caustic & soap ppm in neutral oil. Some oils such as Soyabean oil needs Degumming; the process in which batch system calculates amount of phosphoric acid before adding caustic in neutralizer.
Bleaching: Neutralise Oil is heated in the bleacher at 100 degree Celsius to 110 degree Celsius under vacuum. After reaching the desired temperature by adding Bleaching earth color is removed by the process i.e. adsorption process. All coloring pigments are adsorp at the surface of bleaching earth, this is called catalytic reaction. Bleaching earth and color pigments removed by filtering system.
De odorize: Bleached oil is heated in the de odorize in order to remove odoriferous materials such as ketones, phenols tocopherols aldehydes which are basically responsible for color of oil. Further, all the odoriferous materials evaporate due to high temperature at 180 degree Celsius to 240 degree Celsius in high vacuum systems. Vacuum Pump, Thermic Fluid Boiler, Barometric Condenser, Steam Generator, Catchol, etc. play their significant role in the refining process. Thus, the equipment are part of the refinery & connected with the vessels through pipelines.
Cooler: It requires to cool De odorized oil at atmospheric temperature so as to avoid the oxidation. The oil is cooled down in the cooler with cooling media up to 45oC. Before sending the oil for final packaging it is passed through the bag filter.
Dewaxing: Sunflower oil contains some wax which is to removed before packing. In this process oil is passed through chill media at the temperature of 5oC to 10oC, and then passed through a filter to remove the wax.
Process for palm oil refinery, fraction process: Fractionation process is the process is which palm oil and palm styrene are separated by the chilling system. At a certain temperature oil passes through the filter for fraction and composition of oil. Further, crystallizing vessels are used in which chilling pipe coils cool down the oil for fractionation. As a result, palm styrene crystals are formed because of chilling which are then separated in filter press & pure liquid of palm oil is obtained, leaving behind palm styrene cake in the filter press.
