There are three basic processes in the Batch refinery for refining of the oil
Neutralisation is the process by which the Free Fatty Acid (FFA) is removed by adding caustic soda. Oil is heated up to a temperature of 60°C by actually heating the coils, and oil is stirred with the help of a stirrer. The chemical reaction between free fatty acid and caustic soda yields soap stock, which is permitted to settle at the bottom of neutralizer from where it is transferred to a tank. The obtained oil is washed with hot water to lessen extra caustic and soap ppm in the neutral oil. Oil such as Soybean oil requires Degumming, the process in batch system to calculate amount of phosphoric acid added prior to adding caustic in neutralizer.
The neutralised oil obtained through neutralization process is heated in a bleacher in a temperature range of 100°C to 110°C under vacuum. After reaching the requisite temperature by adding bleaching earth, the colon is removed by a process called adsorption process. Reaction wherein all coloring pigments are adsorbed on the surface of the bleaching earth is called catalytic reaction. Color pigments and bleaching earth is removed with the help of a filtering system.
The bleached oil is heated in the deodorizer to eliminate odoriferous stuffs such as phenols, aldehydes, tocopherols, ketones that are the primary reason for the color of oil. Such odoriferous material evaporates by high temperature of up to 180°C to 240°C under vacuum. Thermic Fluid Boiler, Barometric Condenser, Vacuum Pump, Steam Generator, Catchol, etc. are crucial for the refining process. Therefore, the equipment is indispensable part of oil refineries and connected with the vessels through pipelines.
De odorized oil is requires cooling at atmospheric temperaturtre to avoid oxidation.De odorized oil cool in the cooler with cooling media upto 45oc.Before sending this oil for final packaging oil is pass through the bag filter
Similar to sunflower oil that contains some wax needed to be removed before packing, the processed oil is made to pass through chill media wherein the temperature is reduced to 5°C to 10°C and then passed through the filter to eliminate wax.
Process for palm oil refinery, fraction process:
Palm oil needs fractionation process, wherein palm styrene and palm olein are separated by chilling system at definite temperature. When the oil passes through the filter, the fraction and composition of oil is obtained. For this activity, crystallizing vessels are used wherein chilling pipe coils cool the oil for fractionation. The formation of Palm styrene crystals happens due to chilling, and which is later separated in the filter press. After the process, pure liquid of palm olein is obtained and palm styrene cake is kept in the filter press
